What are response credits?
You need 1 credit to capture the response to a question such as:
- A multiple choice question (e.g. "Is the respondent male or female?" or "Select the 3 most appropriate options")
- A text or numeric input (e.g. "Enter the respondent's name" or "How old are you?")
- An image or photo (e.g. "Capture a photo of the respondent")
Completed surveys or forms are called submissions which (in almost all cases) consist of multiple responses.
Response credits are also used to capture and deliver multimedia content such as images (handset dependent). For multimedia, the number of response credits used is based on the amount of data transferred (50 credits per MB).
Note that response credits do not cover airtime costs rendered by the relevant mobile network operator. Please review airtime pricing for further information.
Example
You have a survey in which you need to capture 19 questions and a 640x480 resolution image (around 100KB using a Sony Ericsson C702).
- Credits per submission for the questions = 20
- Credits per submission for the image data = 0.1MB x 50 = 5
- Total credits per submission upload = 20 + 5 = 25
Depending on the quantity of response credits purchased, to capture and process a 25 credit submission would cost:
- R2.50 pay as you go (no bundle)
- R2.13 with a 600K credit bundle
- R0.88 with a 5M credit bundle

Messaging
By purchasing message credits, you are able to communicate with team members, respondents, customers and other stakeholders via SMS integrated directly into the Mobenzi Researcher console. -
Airtime
For Mobenzi Researcher to function, each handset must either have airtime or data connectivity. In South Africa, we offer SIM monitoring, RICA registration, automated recharges and a range of related logistics services. -
Survey / form setup
First time users often prefer to seek professional survey or form design assistance. Consulting can be provided directly by our team, or one of our partners. -
Training
One of Mobenzi Researcher's key benefits is how little training it requires to operate - especially for fieldworkers. It's often beneficial however to conduct a short fieldworker and/or administrator training session to get the most out of Mobenzi Researcher's capabilities. Training can be provided directly by our team, via web conferencing, or a local partner. -
Handsets
Standardising on a handset can reduce support and training requirements substantially. Simply use your preferred supplier to procure compatible handsets, or contact our team for assistance in sourcing suitable handsets and SIM cards directly. Within South Africa, we are able to provide handset rental services. -
Customisation
The Mobenzi Researcher API unlocks infinite possibilites ranging from simple integration or reporting to complete custom system development - depending on your requirements. Make use of your own development team, or contact one of our partners to discuss your needs.
